Some people say this hotel is the most inspiring hotel to re-open since Ian Schrager kick-started the boutique-hotel boom. This is
despite the fact that La Réserve is inside a 1969 purpose-built building and stuck between a railway line, airport and the main road
out of Geneva. The new interior design is by Jacques Garcia, the maverick behind Hotel Costes in Paris. The style is loosely inspired
by African lodges, with animal-print carpets, woven rattan walls and a tented restaurant. But to these elements Garcia has added a
strikingly decadent touch, combining bordello reds with thick velvets, 'tapestry' wallpapers and more than 800,000 gold leaves. The
cosy bar features black resin and back-lit onyx and the excellent Chinese restaurant, Tsé Fung, is covered in red lacquer and rich,
olive-green silks. All 102 rooms are generously sized and deliciously tactile, with dark-leather desks, sleek granite bathrooms and
perfectly crisp white sheets. There is a spectacular, 2,002-square-metre spa with an organic restaurant decorated in white leather.

Le Richemond
One of Geneva's stuffiest hotels has just gotten an overdue injection of glamour by the Rocco Forte hotel group. The five-star Le
Richemond, built in 1875 and located in the city's center, has fully reopened after a two-year rehab and several months of operating
in parts. Additions include a swank Shiseido spa, but the most impressive improvement has to be the new Royal Suite, taking up the
entire top floor. The 2,700-square-foot space features fireplaces, a sauna, an 1,100-square-foot terrace with views of Lake Geneva and
Mont Blanc.

Les Armures
In spite of the government-rated five-star elegance of the hotel that contains this restaurant, it is surprisingly unpretentious and
affordable. Dining is possible on three different floors. The lower you go, the more animated the scene becomes. This stone building
is located on a cobblestone street across from a medieval arsenal in one of the most colorful neighborhoods of the Old Town. The
building was constructed in the 16th century, and this place has thrived as one of the most atmospheric restaurants since its
founding in 1957. The three different fondues offered are the best in Geneva. The winter-only sauerkraut garni is also a savory
meal -- made with several types of sausage and pork.
